KEITAI GIRLは山口典子によって作り出された想像上のキャラクターで、携帯電話のキーパッドで全身覆われ、
ヘッドギアをつけています。KEITAI GIRLは携帯電話を通してしか人とコミュニケーションができない存在です。
山口はこの作品を、写真作品、映像、彫刻、パフォーマンスで展開しています。いまは携帯電話ひとつでクレジット決済ができ、テレビが見られ、音楽が聞け、GPSが使え、写真が撮れ、そしてＥメールができます。小さな携帯電話ひとつ持っていれば、世界とつながる事ができるのです。携帯電話によりコミュニケーションの方法や、情報の共有の仕方は一変しました。私たちは世界中の人々と瞬時に繋がることが可能なサイバースペースに生きている反面、肌と肌でのコミュニケーションや触れ合うという感覚を失いつつあります。KEITAI GIRLは、ある意味そんな今日の私たちを風刺した存在とも言えるでしょう。なぜならば、彼女の体を覆っているおびただしい数の携帯電話のキーパッドは、それを触る無数の手を想像させます。そして彼女は体の表面をすみずみまで覆うキーパッドを通じて誰かに触れて欲しいと願っています。彼女のボディスーツはあなたの指で触れられるのを渇望しているのです。
